The Philadelphia Inquirer recently published an article I wrote about educating doctors about ME. The article can be read here. This week, the Philadelphia County Medical Society is hosting a screening of the film Unrest, followed by a panel discussion about ME. The event is open to the public, and medical professionals can obtain CME credit for attending. More info and the registration link are found here.
If you are new to the topic of ME, here are a few links for more information:
- Key Facts About ME/CFS: This quick summary comes from the National Academy of Medicine.
- Definition/Diagnosis: There are multiple definitions of ME/CFS in use, and disagreement over the best one to use in clinical practice and research. The definition from the National Academy of Medicine is the most recently published, and is a good place to start.
- Healthcare Provider Education: Healthcare providers can get CME credit for watching Unrest online, and this page also has links to additional resources.
- Treatment: This brief handout summarizes the current state of treatment.
- Research: This dense handout summarizes the current research on ME.
- Personal experience: You can read more on my blog about what it is like to live with ME.
If you have questions or need more resources, pop it in the comments and we’ll crowdsource the answer as best we can.
Jennie, good for you–stirring things up in Philadelphia, and useful links to potentially useful short summaries of treatments and research–both doctor-friendly. Thanks again for all you do on our behalf.
As someone who has lived with this wretched disease for 29 years, I so appreciative of any healthcare providers willing to learn more about it. A great place to start is simply watching the film Unrest.
As always, Jennie, thank you for all your advocacy, research, and writing. The links you have shared are invaluable!
thank you and Godspeed, God bless.
Congratulations for writing this article and actually having it published in this very well-read Philadelphia newspaper. It should educate some health care providers. So should watching “Unrest.”
